Gabi Cirlig, a renowned cybersecurity researcher has this to say about Xiaomi phones “It’s a backdoor with phone functionality”. He found out that his phone was being sent to remote servers hosted by Alibaba, another Chinese tech giant with huge investments in Xiaomi. He was spooked when he realised that they were harvesting data even when he accessed the web in Incognito mode. This could be the reason why Xiaomi phones were banned by the Indian Armed Forces years ago.
Xiaomi is trying its best to fit into the Indian market as a ‘Made in India’ product, but the revenue generated by the company goes straight to China. We also don’t believe that this would be the last time we’d be hearing about privacy violations from Xiaomi. It would be safe to assume that when you are listening, Xiaomi is listening too.
