Motorola

The American brand that's essentially Chinese

Year Established: 1928

Headquarters: Illinois, USA

Parent: Lenovo, China

Our Findings

Motorola is an American telecommunication company owned by a Chinese entity. Yes, this USA-based company is owned by, wait for it, the Lenovo Group. Motorola makes good budget phones and had ruled the low and mid-tier market segments years ago. They went missing from the scene for almost two years, but have shown signs of a comeback recently with new launches.

We don’t have a problem with Motorola phones per se. It’s an American company, headed by an American citizen and has American individuals as top shareholders, but the fact that they are owned by an all-inclusive Chinese company somewhat makes it hard to trust. So, we recommend you look at other alternatives.
