Lenovo

The biggest ‘Chinese’ brand to ‘Make in India’.

Year Established: 1984

Headquarters: Beijing, China

Parent: Legend Holding, China

Our Findings

Lenovo is the biggest Chinese smartphone brand to ‘Make in India’. We imagine it might come as a shock for many, but Lenovo is a proper Chinese company that is owned, backed and managed by Chinese entities. The company was at the centre of not one but many privacy-related scandals over the last decade. When it comes to the smartphone game, Lenovo, which also makes Motorola phones, has a manufacturing facility in India where they produce at least six million phones every year. For now, their smartphone division has managed to stay away from privacy related incidents, but don’t let your guard down yet.

Lenovo produces some good phones, but it’s hard to deny the fact that Lenovo is an all-inclusive Chinese company with interests all over the world. If you plan to cut down your dependency on Chinese goods, then we have one piece of advice for you: look elsewhere.
